Overview

Located on the Adriatic coast of the Italian peninsula, Abruzzo is a quiet and picturesque region that is largely unknown to American consumers. Home to expressive wines that exude both the unique characteristics of their terroir and the unchanging, bucolic rusticity of the region, it is an area unfairly overlooked, an area loaded with personality and wines that over-deliver in the glass.

Established in 2000 by Tommaso Olivastri with the union of four incredible cru sites (L’Ariosa, Marcantonio, Quercia del Corvo, and Colle Foresta), the estate boasts a unique combination of seaside and hillside terrain that perfectly balances maritime and higher elevation influences with its near proximity to Mt Majella. Grape selection among the cru sites is similarly balanced—the famous local white varieties, Pecorino and Passerina, are produced closer to the coast, while heartier manifestations of Montepulciano and Trebbiano can be found in the limestone rich hillside vineyards. Everything is manipulated by hand, and the family’s overriding goal is to “genuinely preserve in the winery the quality obtained in the vineyard, giving life to wines that are conceived as a sincere expression of their terroir.”
