Overview

Often overlooked by American consumers, the four villages of Barbaresco have been making incredible wines for generations. Quietly tolling in a hilly landscape that is nothing short of breathtaking, the growers have cultivated Nebbiolo that is both complex and elegant. Traditionally produced in much smaller quantities than their counterparts in neighboring Barolo, these are wines that represent some of the most exciting found in Italy.

Founded in 1939 by Pietro Berutti (and named in honor of the dog that saved his young son, Gualtiero, from drowning), the estate is perched atop the famed hill of Secondine (aka Sori San Lorenzo) and has grown to encompass some 22 premium hectares of vineyards. Mainly composed of rocky and sandy soils, each of these vineyard plots sit in prime position on their respective hills, facing southeast or southwest for maximum sun exposure and yielding Nebbiolo that is characterized both by finesse and elegance.

Committed to producing clean wine with zero waste, the estate follows organic methods wherever possible and employs natural fertilizers sourced from the family's prized white breeding cattle. The ensuing results are fresh, structured wines with astounding depth and complexity.
